Serena Williams wears diamond-encrusted dress and Nike shoes during first round of US Open 2022, daughter matches outfit

If there’s one thing Serena Williams doesn’t lack, it’s style.

The 23-time Major champion has long been a trailblazer on and off the court, regularly wearing the finest silks and fabrics as she defeated player after player throughout her storied career.

From pearls to bodycon dresses, Williams has always been one to make a fashion statement.

And she made a strong impression on Monday night, stopping at Arthur Ashe Stadium dressed in brand new gear for her first-round match with Danka Kovinic.

Williams won in straight sets against Kovinic (6-3, 6-3). But it was her outfit that caught the eye of onlookers when she first took to center court.

Williams took to court in a stunning all-black dress. The devil was in the details, however; Williams’ dress was adorned with sparkling diamonds.

It wasn’t just an outfit. It was an experience. From head to toes. Literally. Diamond grains have been meticulously placed in her hair. It seemed like the perfect way to end Williams’ legendary hairstyle history. She entered the scene with pearls and ends her career with diamonds.

Serena’s shoes were just as dripping. Just like her dress, her shoes were studded with jewelry. First rule of fashion: Make sure the shoes match the outfit.

Williams’ sneaker selection was both fashionable and functional. The tongue was lined with the phrase “Queen Mama”, a nod to Williams’ young daughter, Olympia.

Speaking of Williams’ daughter, it looks like Olympia is also on board. Perched high in the family box next to her father and grandmother, Olympia was also dripping. She wore a matching all-black outfit that featured diamonds all over her torso.

And her hair? Well, that was nostalgia at its finest; Olympia wore phantom white pearls at the end of her braids, paying homage to the hairstyle her mother and aunt used when they first made a name for themselves in the tennis world.

There will be a lot that tennis fans will miss once Williams hangs up his racquet for good. But for all the other accomplishments she’s received during her storied career, one thing is certain: she’s among the best-dressed players to lace them up.

Serena Williams’ best outfits on the court

Serena Williams has made a habit of wearing stylish outfits on the court. Here are some of his most iconic looks on the pitch over the years:

Williams started her career in style, quite literally, wearing white pearls during her big early career triumphs. It was a choice that meant the world to legions of black girls, a decision that put the sport in a better place as a result.

It would pave the way for a fashion-fueled career like no other. I mean, who can forget the all-black cat costume she wore to the 2002 US Open? Serena was too clean here.

Times may have changed. But Williams’ appreciation for fine fashion never waned, as she showed when she wore an Off-White x Nike collaboration to the 2018 US Open. This is fashion:

She returned to the Off-White x Nike pit for the 2019 French Open. It proved just as effective this time around:

You also can’t talk about Serena without mentioning Wimbledon. Her willingness to show ambition with the all-white outfit just added to her legacy. And the proof is in the pudding; Williams has seven Wimbledon titles and 98 career wins on the legendary lawn; it is the second highest number of career wins on the lawn of the All-England Tennis Club (behind Martina Navratilova’s 120).

Here’s an outfit she’s been frequenting for the past few years: an all-white dress with one sleeved arm and one sleeveless arm.
